Gentilissimi,
dopo essere stata accettata da Roehampton e Kingston e brutalmente respinta dal King’s College, ecco che inaspettatamente ricevo quest’oggi una mail dalla University of the Arts dove il signor – o la signora…boh… – Zoheir Beig mi comunica che ho superato il primo stage di selezione effettuato tra le circa 600 domande pervenute quest’anno, cosa che significa chiaramente che la scelta è stata effettuata estraendo da una sfera rotante a manovella delle palline con i nomi dei candidati! Come i numeri del lotto!
La prossima fase è un impietoso bagno di sangue.
Mi si chiede di far pervenire ai loro uffici entro il 10 Marzo un plico contenente quanto segue, al fine di far esaminare il materiale ai loro addetti che se soddisfatti mi chiamano per sostenere un colloquio, previsto per il 25 Marzo.
Il materiale richiesto è SEMPLICEMENTE questo:
500 word short essay on a scene from a film of your choice, in which you analyse the relationship between style and meaning.
200 word statement which critically analyses what you learned from the role/roles you undertook on the practice work you are sending in.
2 minutes of video / filmed material submitted on DVD. (Please do not send longer than this, as we will watch 2 minutes only).
This doesn’t have to be a showreel, but it can be excerpts that show something of the depth of your work. NB We are looking for equal abilities in theory and practice and a committed interest in both. We will be looking for specialist abilities in one or more of the following areas: Directing, Production, Production Design, Cinematography, Sound Design or Editing. We will also be looking for a developed imagination, and for a clear passion with ‘something to say’.

In pratica vogliono uno che sappia già fare quasi tutto, cosicché loro possano comodamente rilassarsi mentre gli smussano gli spigoli e lo instradano verso il mondo del successo.
